From just sitting in front of the TV screen to being active participants, <b>virtual reality<\/b> (<b>VR) animation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0is helping bridge that gap. \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 24px;\">What exactly is VR animation, and how is it different from conventional animation?<\/h2>\n<p>Simply put, VR animation creates a simulated environment and places the user inside an experience.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means animators must now stage <b>virtual reality<\/b> (<b>VR) animation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0to help their audience step inside and move through the story. However, <\/span><b>VR <\/b><b>animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allows people <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to look around at any angle. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">means the usual editing of linear narratives and cinematography is gone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <b>virtual reality<\/b> (<b>VR) animation<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">content makers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">must <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stop thinking about animating from locked-off camera angles and shots and instead consider multiple vantage points that keep changing, just like in the real world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>VR animators feel the challenge and are, of course, delighted.<\/p>\n<p>Jake Rowell, creative director of projects for VR studio Wevr, explains it well in an interview with Cartoon Brew \u201cThe biggest difference between VR and linear projects is that you are putting yourself inside the experience and looking <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at the <\/span><b>future of<\/b><b> animation<\/b>\u00a0with this new perspective. This participation gives you a lot to think about and react to regarding scale and speed of movement relative to the players\u2019 size.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While large-scale <\/span><b>VR animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> experiences will need such an approach, a linear approach could work for smaller VR experiences (like when the user is seated) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without having to deliver top-notch <\/span><b>VR animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from all angles<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3>How will VR impact the <b>Future Cartoon?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the user operates the camera in<\/span><b> VR animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, animators must direct the user, account for various audience members, anticipate their perspective, and direct where users would look. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to experts, this is crucial to ensure users understand where they should look, meaning animators must collaborate with lighting, sound, and layout teams in <\/span><b>virtual reality<\/b> <b>animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Here are three ways virtual reality will change how people interact with the world of animation.<\/h3>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Increased emotional attachment<\/strong> \u2013 <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stories invoke sadness, happiness, or anger in us. <\/span><b>virtual reality<\/b> <b>animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> further enriches these feelings by providing audio-visual immersion and the sense of playing an active part in the story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Experiencing <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<strong>the <\/strong><\/span><b>future of<\/b><b> animation<\/b> as an interactive medium<\/strong> \u2013 Imagine going from wanting to watch a story, to actually playing a role in it. Or watching a favorite hero playing a game, to being the hero in the game; <strong>VR animation<\/strong> will help the audience cross over to their favorite imaginary worlds effortlessly.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Improved visuals<\/strong> \u2013 <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although there have been plenty of 3D movie releases, theatres with less-than-optimum projection setups were not fully geared to take advantage of the 3rd dimension. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With advancements and technological improvements, <\/span><b>VR animation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can help bridge this gap<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It gives the user a completely different visual experience that is more hands-on and interactive than current modes of entertainment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Virtual Reality in a new COVID-19 world<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Countries worldwide are grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the lockdowns have hit conventional work environments hard. The idea of how organisations and their staff must work together is evolving quickly.
